Mostly, the younger folks would go somewhere else. The weird thing was that people would not stick around as long. We would have more folks actively listening to us, and we seemed to get better tips as well. We disregarded the top 40 music entirely, and focused on classic rock and oldies, mixing it up with a bit of blues and R&B. That seemed to work pretty well for a while. For a while, we switched it up.

MTV is still there, though I think it is a joke any more. They do this for promotional reasons, much like the reasons they are played on television music stations. If you are sick of the MTV programming like I am, you can find another great place to watch music videos. It’s become almost a parody of itself.

Controversy has sometimes involved the music industry and some disk jockeys have been cited for payola. Every now and then, the question is asked as to how accurate the charts are. This is when a presenter has taken a bribe to play a certain record, in order to push it up the music chart. Artists don't have to sell as many copies to get that coveted number one spot now but there is more competition than existed in the 1960s and 1970s era.
